We have recently received a castable wax resin for our new Form 2 printer used primarily for direct casting small, detailed designs such as jewelry. The resin has produced excellent results so far, shown above is a detailed ring design by Katharine Daniel Jewellery ready for casting into gold. The resin was brought out by Formlabs in July. The wax-filled material is designed for reliable direct investment casting with zero ash content and clean burnout. Printed parts are suitable for both custom try-ons and final production.
The ability to directly cast from a 3D print is revolutionizing jewellery design, with more geometry so complex that they would have never been possible to hand-modeled, being modeled in CAD and printed with ease on the SLA printer. The shapes and forms that one can achieve with this is unprecedented and it is and exciting time to be designing jewellery.
