The model riverbank was generated from topographical data which the students are going to use as the basis for their building designs.
One of the FabLab’s Technical Specialists, Evan Moore, explained: ‘Foam is great material for creating quick, large 3D models which can be finished up to give a professional look, in this case as an architectural model. It’s not ideal where lots of detail is necessary, but works great as a base for something that doesn’t need to be perfectly accurate.’
Over the past few years FabLab has worked with Cardiff University’s Architecture students on a range of projects helping them develop their knowledge and experience of digital technologies and how they can be used to realise their designs.
